A.Quinn, Patricia Gallagher and Jenny Hewitt. There will be plenty of old stories swapped in Raphoe this weekend when St Eunan’s National School holds an Open/Fun Day at the school on Saturday to mark the school’s 60th celebrations. The festivities were officially set in motion a few weeks back when a hugely successful parade took place through the town, when St Eunan’s NS combined the launch of their 60th anniversary celebrations with a coffee afternoon for the Hospice and a fundraiser for Syrian Refugees. On Sunday last the school community was out in force again at a massively successful 5K.Deputy Principal Anita Keeve explained that the anniversary was being used very much as an opportunity for learning and this weekend’s fun day will continue in that vein. “Over the past number of weeks the children across all the classrooms have been learning about the history, not just of the school, but all about Raphoe and their local community. They have been getting postcards from past pupils who are all over the world, and that has helped their geography skills. The anniversary is being used all the time as an opportunity for learning and improvement, both physically and mentally and we were delighted to see so many of the children and their families running and walking the 5K on Sunday last.”The learning curve for the students has seen past pupils of the school come to talk to current students about local history, poetry and even old school yard games, all of which will feature at the open day on Saturday.“We hope to have some of the old games on Saturday, we will have displays of old photographs, a chance for people to look through old roll books and to get their photos taken at an old school desk. The theme of the day is very much one of fun, we’ll have music, food and fun games and we’d urge anyone who has a connection with the school – former students and staff members – to come along for what promises to be a great afternoon.”The festivities at St Eunan’s NS kick off at 1pm this Saturday and everyone is invited to come along and join the fun. SUPER DAY OF NOSTALGIA PLANNED FOR ST EUNAN’S 60th ANNIVERSARY OPEN DAY was last modified: October 13th, 2015 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:donegalRaphoeSt Eunans NSlast_img
