Famed mansion goes up in flames

first_imgPASADENA, Calif. (AP) – A multimillion-dollar mansion that played home to fictional characters in such movies as “Hollywood Homicide,” “Just Married” and “Rocky V” has been destroyed by fire. A Wednesday night blaze gutted the 21-room mansion and caused an estimated $15 million in damage, Pasadena Fire Department spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said Thursday. No injuries were reported. The fire department initially reported the mansion was used in the 1960’s “Batman” TV series as the home of Bruce Wayne. But Derderian said Thursday that officials were confused about the location and Wayne Manor, about two blocks away, was not damaged. The cause of the fire was under investigation. The 12,000-square-foot home on 3.3 acres of land has been under renovation. About 75 firefighters worked to prevent embers from igniting brush behind the home. A police helicopter hovered above the site to guard against flare-ups. “There’s a very large brush area behind that residence,” Derderian said. “It had the potential to turn into a very volatile event.” Fire crews from Pasadena, Burbank, Glendale and the city and county of Los Angeles worked the blaze, she said.
